  3. is comfortable for you

Tips on how to start a conversation.

Soulwinning Script Diagram

  1. Sample Script Diagram
    1. I don’t start by inviting them to church because I don’t want the topic to be about church.  Sometimes I even pre-empt and say “I’m not here to talk you into joining our church, I just want to explain to you how to go to heaven.”
    2. Don’t use “christian-y” words like “tract” or “gospel” or “salvation” because most people do not know what these really mean or have a wrong idea of what it is.  Even “saved” may need to be clarified.
    3. Don’t ask “would you like one?” because their automatic reaction will be “no”.  You are not asking if they want it, they probably don’t, you are asking if it’s okay to leave it with them and that they would read and consider what it is about.
    4. Ask for permission, it ensures you have the person’s attention and permission to take up more of their time.
    5. Many people find the “heaven” question personal because they believe in works salvation.  Easing to the question reduces the impact of the hard-hitting question.
    6. Have a 30 second presentation that you can use if they don’t have time to talk.
  2. Common objections and how to turn it around.
    1. “I’m a pretty good person”
      1. “That’s what most people think but the bible teaches that we cannot be good enough, is it okay if I show you a few verses and explain?”
    2. “I go to ____________ church”
      1. “My purpose here is not to try and get you to switch churches.  Many people we speak to that go to a church are familiar with Jesus and what he did, but are still not 100% sure of heaven.  What about you?”
    3. “I don’t believe in __________”
      1. “Oh okay, but has anyone ever explained to you what Jesus taught about how to go to heaven?”
