Philippians 4:17 Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.

Donating to us is always voluntary and we prefer not to practice a public collection during the formal part of the meeting. This helps to promote a spirit of “cheerful” and “purposeful” giving in our church (2 Corinthians 9:7). We strive to keep all donations as anonymous as possible so that your heavenly reward  is maximised (Matthew 6:1-4).

You can financially support the work we do at our church by one of three ways (listed in order of preference):

Direct deposit

Account Name: The Church in Punchbowl
BSB Number: 302-162
Account Number: 0802808

pros:
These usually incur no fees with the major Australian banks and is therefore the most cost effective way to give to our work if you live in Australia. Please consider setting up a reoccurring transfer to support us on an ongoing basis.

cons:
These cannot be done completely anonymously (ie. your name may appear on the bank statement depending on which bank you are with). Whilst personal information is never revealed about who gives to our ministry, some people may wish to keep their donations anonymous for personal reasons. This option is not cost effective for overseas supporters due to the transaction fees involved for international direct deposits.

Cash donations

There is a small collections box that you can place your cash donations into when you gather with the church each Sunday.

pros:
Giving a cash donation means you had to physically attend the church gathering. There are no transaction fees so the church receives the full donation and your personal information is completely anonymous.

cons:
There is a security risk if there is a lot of cash on hand. There is also the time involved to physically count and visit a bank to deposit the cash into the church bank account. This option obviously cannot be used by those who are not a member of our church.

Online via PayPal

I would only encourage overseas supporters to send donations via PayPal. Direct deposits do not incur any fees within Australia for most major banks. This method does allow you enter a monthly amount if you would like to support us on a regular basis.

PayPal charges the below fees on donations:

Australians: 1.1% + $0.30
International: 2.1% + fixed fee based on country of origin

How our donations are used

  • rent for the church building and house
  • food for the times we eat together
  • church equipment (eg. audio-visual, food, cleaning)
  • financial assistance to church members
  • system administration expenses (eg. website, soul-winning, accounting)
  • some social activities and events
  • printing of gospel tracts

(listed approx. in order of value from highest to lowest)

If you have any questions about how our church uses the money please contact us. We realise money can be a sensitive issue and like to be transparent with how much comes in and where it goes. We review the church’s finances every 3 months.

2 Corinthians 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
