Time to say goodbye…

to 16 Augusta Street… and hello to 20 Arthur Street!

The time has come to move our meeting location from the house to a hall. Our last meeting in the house will be this coming Sunday the 12th of June. Then on the 19th of June we will be having our first meeting in the rear hall of the Punchbowl Baptist Church property.

This coming Sunday will be your last chance to soak in the TCIP experience where it all began… Don’t miss it =].

As fate would have it, the owners of the duplex on 16 Augusta Street required their property back and our lease was terminated with 3 months to find a new home and meeting location for the church. God must have been moving us because a few weeks after that the local city council gave us an order to cease using the residential property as a public place of worship.

Then through some internal connections within our church, I was put into contact with the elders at Punchbowl Baptist Church who, after some discussion, allowed us to rent their hall in the evenings on Sundays.

Moving our morning meeting to an evening meeting will take some getting used to, but there’s a few reasons why it may be a good change for us:

  • Change can be good. It keeps things fresh and interesting.
  • Anyone we meet during Saturday and Sunday soulwinning we can invite to church the coming Sunday evening.
  • We may see a higher number of members staying for the meal since it will now be a dinner instead of lunch.
  • Our members who live further away may find it easier to make it to our meeting.

We will be renting the rear hall of the property as opposed to the main hall that is visible from the street. There are two reasons for this:

  1. It was cheaper and the amount of room was still more than sufficient.
  2. The rear hall was attached to the kitchen, making logistics surrounding fellowship meals more convenient.

The front hall is a great facility which has two floors, already has AV equipment set up and a mother-baby room. But the floor is carpeted and commands a premium if used. It is a suitable place for special events such as weddings and funerals.

Unless we end up installing or getting some sort of projector screen we will probably end up setting up the chairs across the room at the beginning so we can use the blank wall on the left as a projection screen. If we continue to grow we can consider other set ups or even renting the main hall.

There are a few other things that need to be worked out but I suppose we’ll find out what those are and how best to handle them once we start using the venue.

And last of all, we’re moving within the same suburb, so that means we don’t even need to change our church name. The Church in Punchbowl legacy lives on!
