Baptism Sunday – 20th December 2015

On this Sunday morning, the church will be meeting at the same time of 9:00 AM but instead of at the house we’ll be at Georges River National Park to baptize a group of believers. It’s looking to be our biggest Sunday gathering yet with a family visiting from Brisbane for this special Sunday!

When:
9:00 AM at Georges River National Park (see map and directions further down)

What to Bring:

  • drinking water
  • hat
  • picnic chairs and mats
  • a change of clothes and towel if you want to take a swim.
  • If you are able, a cold side dish to share
  • if it’s raining, an umbrella!

Food:
Rather than go to the trouble of bringing equipment and raw ingredients to cook lunch on the day, we’re going to buy food for the day. If you plan on attending on the day and know of others that will be coming to witness the baptisms, please let me know as it will help me plan how many people to buy food for. The plan is Crust Pizza unless someone can convince me of a better idea.

We won’t be taking up any collections on the day but if you want to contribute financially for the food you can do so as you normally would on any other Sunday when we’re back at the house.

Dress Standards
Please be dressed modestly at all times even when going for a swim. My standard of modesty for ladies would be knee-length shorts and an opaque, high-cut, t-shirt as a minimum when swimming. For gents, no speedos please.

Directions
The pin on the map is exactly where we plan on meeting within the national park area. The blue line shows directions from the church house to the national park which is the path I normally take.

The entrance to the national park is at the intersection of Henry Lawson Drive and The River Road.

This is what the entrance looks like from the main road. On Sunday there may be someone at the boom gate entrance collecting a park fee which is $8 per vehicle. This may be slightly more for passenger vehicles with 12+ seats.

Once you pass the boom gate, take a right at the fork and follow the road all the way to the end.

If there was no one at the gate collecting fees, be sure to stop at the machine to purchase a ticket for your car to display on the dash.

As you drive along the road you will pass a large shelter and a white amenities block. Keep going…

Then you will pass another large brown amenities block. Keep going…

You will then pass a large open area for cars to park. If we don’t get the spot we are aiming for this is where we will be. If you don’t find us at the final destination, head back to this car park and look for us near this area.

The beach near this carpark is quite nice and there’s plenty of space. Simon had a go at parting the waters, but was unsuccessful. But this is not where we hope to set up shop on this Sunday so keep going further down the road…

Eventually you’ll hit another gate, which by the time this Sunday comes around should be open to the public. Drive through the gate and around the bend.

As you drive around the bend, you’ll see another beach over the edge on your left. That’s where we want to be. We’ll be set up somewhere under the shade of the trees. Just park anywhere along the side of the road.

The park warden told me that this end area was only opened up to the public on 27 November 2015. It’s been closed for many years previously. So he thinks it will be a quiet spot even on a busy Sunday because most people are not used to driving all the way in when they visit this reserve. If that’s the case we’ll have this beach all to ourselves!

Pray for a nice sunny day. When the weather is hot, the water is really warm.

Hope to see you all there.

Matthew 28:18-20
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
