Introduction

Victor: We are gathered here today in the sight of God and in the presence of this congregation to join together this man and woman in holy matrimony. Marriage is a life-long union of faithfulness between a man and a woman. It is an honourable state of life that was instituted in the beginning by God himself and is a testimony of the spiritual relationship between Jesus Christ and his church.

  1. It was ordained for the procreation of children, that they might be brought up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
  2. It was ordained that those that have been joined in marriage might live a chaste and holy life, pleasing and glorifying to God.
  3. It was ordained for the mutual companionship, help and comfort, that the one ought to have of the other, both in prosperity and adversity.

It is therefore not to be entered into unadvisedly, lightly or merely to satisfy physical desires, but prayerfully, with careful thought and reverence for God, duly considering the purposes for which it was ordained.

Today, Gershon and Christine have chosen to enter into this sacred covenant and it is a privilege and honour to be here today to share this moment with them. Therefore if anyone here can show any reason why these two may not lawfully be joined together in marriage, let them speak now or hereafter remain silent.

Gershon and Christine, I charge you both as you will answer before God, who is the judge of all and from whom no secrets are hidden, if either of you know any reason why you may not lawfully be joined together in marriage, that you now confess it. For be assured that those who marry contrary to God’s word are not joined together by him, neither is their marriage lawful in his sight.

Consent of the father of the bride

Victor: Mr Rudy Ebuenga, as the father of the bride, do you consent to give to this man your daughter’s hand in marriage?

Rudy: I do.

Consent of the couple

Victor: Gershon, do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife; do you promise to love, honour and keep her in sickness as in health, in poverty as in wealth, and forsaking all others, be faithful only to her for as long as you both shall live – do you so promise?

Gershon: I do.

Victor: Christine, do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband; do you promise to love, honour and keep him in sickness as in health, in poverty as in wealth, and forsaking all others, be faithful only to him for as long as you both shall live – do you so promise?

Christine: I do.

Victor: Rudy, you may now give to this man your daughter’s hand in marriage.
(Rudy to take Gershon by the left hand and place Christine’s right hand into Gershon’s)

Prayer of Thanksgiving

Victor: I will now have the bride and groom, as well as the bridal party take their seats as we sing praises to God.

Song 1 – Praise Him, Praise Him

Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!
Sing, O Earth, His wonderful love proclaim!
Hail Him! Hail Him! Highest archangels in glory;
Strength and honor give to His holy Name!
Like a shepherd, Jesus will guard His children,
In His arms He carries them all day long.

Chorus
Praise Him! Praise Him! Tell of His excellent greatness;
Praise Him! Praise Him! Ever in joyful song!

Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!
For our sins He suffered, and bled, and died.
He our Rock, our hope of eternal salvation,
Hail Him! Hail Him! Jesus the Crucified.
Sound His praises! Jesus who bore our sorrows,
Love unbounded, wonderful, deep and strong.

Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!
Heav’nly portals loud with hosannas ring!
Jesus, Savior, reigneth forever and ever;
Crown Him! Crown Him! Prophet, and Priest, and King!
Christ is coming! over the world victorious,
Pow’r and glory unto the Lord belong.

4:25 – Reading of God’s Word – Mr Ramon Yuseco

4:30 – Song 2 – To God be the glory

To God be the glory, great things he hath done!
So loved he the world that he gave us his Son,
who yielded his life an atonement for sin,
and opened the lifegate that all may go in.

Chorus
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear his voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father thru Jesus the Son,
and give him the glory, great things he hath done!

O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
to every believer the promise of God;
the vilest offender who truly believes,
that moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

Great things he hath taught us, great things he hath done,
and great our rejoicing thru Jesus the Son;
but purer, and higher, and greater will be
our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see.

Message

1. The Gospel

  1. What does it mean to be a believer and be saved?
  2. If you were to die today, would you know 100% for sure that your soul would go to heaven?
  3. Plan of salvation
  4. I encourage you to consider your eternal destination, “what shall it profit a man?”
  5. It is the ultimately the bond in Jesus Christ that gives their relationship strength.
  6. I’m sure this is something both Christine and Gershon would like you to hear tonight.

2. Points to make on Marriage

Matthew 19:4-6
4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

  1. Marriage instituted by God, not governments – Only God can end a marriage
  2. Marriage is between a man and woman – don’t buy into the lie of “same-sex marriage”
  3. Roles of a husband and wife in a marriage

Ephesians 5:22-33

22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

  1. Christ the sacrificial, leader and provider
  2. The church the submissive, obedient follower
  3. Not politically correct but our infinitely wise Creator knows what’s best –  if you want a biblical and peaceful marriage heed the advice.

3. For Gershon & Christine

  1. Today you are making a covenant of service – wrong selfish perspective
  2. Still the wrong perspective if the service is all about your spouse

Matthew 22:36-40

36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

    1. You serve each other because you serve Christ
    2. Important because the day will come when your spouse isn’t worthy of your service, but God is always worthy.

Vows (only bride and groom stand)

I, Gershon Yuseco,
take you, Christine Ebuenga,
before God and these witnesses,
to be my wedded wife.
To have and to hold
from this day forward.
For better, for worse,
for richer, for poorer,
in sickness and in health,
to love and to cherish,
till death do us part.

I, Christine Ebuenga,
take you, Gershon Yuseco,
before God and these witnesses,
to be my wedded husband.
To have and to hold
from this day forward.
For better, for worse,
for richer, for poorer,

to love, cherish and obey,
till death do us part.
